Dental care if not equally, but very close to health care in terms of its importance. Still we are so behind in dental care than health care. Let us review the reasons behind this.

US is much ahead of many countries in the world, in dental care research and availability of facilities. We have the best trained doctors, hospitals and universities. So much manpower and taxpayers money are invested in research. Awareness of dental care also is very high in US than many other countries in the world.

Oral hygiene is so much part of our culture. We have the best dental products available in the market. We have very healthy competition in the dental care products and is available in any nook and corner of the country.

Still we have a lot of dental problems compared to other countries. What is the reason behind this. It is because the cost of dental care is extremely high in the country. Common man cannot afford dental care in US. Most of the health insurances do not cover dental. Even if, you have dental insurance, they have caps on the money that can be spend of dental care. This makes it so hard even for middle income families to support dental care needs of their family. It becomes harder for retired people. Food habits of this country also adds to the need of dental care. Especially the meat eating.

Many socially committed companies came out with solutions. One among those, is dental discount plans. For a small monthly fee, anybody can afford to maintain a discount plan and get this available for the whole family irrespective of their age or the number of members in a family. It is a beautiful concept and may be solution for dental care issues of this country.

Man being a social animal has always known that his teeth are more than for just chewing. Teeth and smiling are inseparable, so aside from the necessity of chewing it was easy to see the effect of toothless-ness on the smiles of very old people whose teeth have fallen out.

Therefore, people of all races have cared for their teeth in various ways since time immemorial. The most common method of tooth care in the olden days was the chewing stick, which was basically stick cut off known soft trees that was chewed at one end and used to brush the teeth clean. Some of the trees contained antibacterial and cleansing chemicals that helped keep teeth clean and healthy

Tooth whitening was not commercialized until the advent of professional Barbers who aside from cutting hair were also responsible for pulling out unhealthy teeth.. Then these Middle Ages Barbers began cleaning teeth for their patrons. It was Barbers also who later began applying nitric acid on teeth to whiten them, but with a damaging effect on the enamel which led to teeth decay in all cases.

Ironically this set back for tooth whitening did not deter people from the practice. Instead it’s popularity continued to grow until it became a status symbol for one to have his teeth bleached white with the destructive nitric acid. This practice continued until the ending years of 1800s when fluoride was discovered by the Italians. This new chemical and trained dentists quickly replaced nitric acid and Barbers for dental care. Then the tooth whitening industry began to blossom and has continued to this day to be a very vibrant industry.

Today, there are a variety of methods for whitening your teeth without damaging the enamel. People now achieve bright smiles even though they smoke cigarettes and imbibe teeth staining drinks like coffee and red wine as daily beverages.

This is possible because you can walk into a pharmacy or by the click of a mouse purchase a tooth whitening kit online for whitening your teeth at home by yourself. Well trained dental doctors called dentist are accessible both online and offline to help take care of your teeth and also whiten them whenever you want.

Of course, with your newborn, you won’t be worrying about tooth care. However, as your child gets older, you will want to know how to take care of your older baby’s or toddler’s teeth. Caring for a baby’s or toddler’s teeth can be challenging, but it’s still important. Here are some tips you should follow.

As any new parent knows, by the time a baby is just a few months old, he or she may be cutting a first tooth. This is where the care of baby teeth starts. First of all, to help the baby teethe, you can purchase specially made teething rings that usually can be put in the freezer and made cold and hard. Babies love to chew on these, since they help ease the pain and also help new teeth break through the gums.

Oftentimes, children get slight colds or runny noses during the teething process. If this happens, or if your child is running a slight fever, you can wipe the child with a damp washcloth to make him or her feel better. If the fever persists, make sure to contact your pediatrician or other health care professional to see what interventions you might do. For example, you might be able to give the child a little baby Tylenol or some other type of pain reliever. This will not only help fever go down, but it will also help ease the teething pain.

Once your child has a few teeth, you can begin to introduce him or her to proper oral hygiene. For very, very small babies with few or no teeth, a warm, clean, wet washcloth rubbed on gums may be enough to help keep the mouth clean. Of course, always put your child to bed with only a bottle of water, no milk or juice. Once your child is a bit older, you’ll want to begin to introduce him or her to brushing teeth. At first, do this yourself with a soft brush and a little baby tooth paste. Brushing your child’s teeth while he or she is still young will help him or her get used to the process.

Of course, once your child gets older, around the age of five or six, the baby teeth will start to fall out and adult teeth will start to come in. Once this begins to happen, remember to make it fun and exciting. Of course, children usually like this process, because the tooth fairy visits and they get a little spending money for their trouble. Make sure to make the process even easier by providing soft foods if the child has trouble chewing after he or she loses the tooth.

With a little luck and some planning, your child’s teeth will take him or her to adulthood healthy and strong. Good oral hygiene is a must for this, so start early by both practicing good hygiene and taking the child to the dentist for regular visits.

Society often puts much value into the way that a person looks. In addition to others forming opinions based on appearance, most people are very concerned about their outer beauty. While hair, eyes, and body have been important factors for sometime, smile and teeth are now increasingly being given much attention. It is the great desire of most to have a bright pearly white smile. However, many foods and beverages prevent this by staining and yellowing the teeth. Fortunately, teeth whitening products have given people the opportunity to whiten their smile both professionally and at home. It is the desire of many to find the best tooth whitening system available.

When it comes to whitening your teeth, there are many options from which to choose. Dentists often offer professional teeth whitening. However, This method is typically expensive and time consuming. In most cases, patients are expected to make several different trips for multiple whitening sessions that are not covered by their dental insurance. Therefore, for most people whitening from a dentist is not considered the best tooth whitening system due to time and expense.

Whitening pastes and polishes are also a possibility. However, in most cases, these are only temporary cover-ups for stains. While your teeth may appear whiter for a short period of time with these products, many dental professionals do not recommend them. Pastes tend to be abrasive and can actually scratch the enamel of the teeth causing damage.

Other at home products include whitening strips and trays. Strips are effective at gaining a whiter smile. However, they only whiten what they touch. Therefore, cracks and crevices in the teeth are not whitened. Also, most strips are designed only for the front teeth.

Trays, too, can be effective for lightening the shade of your teeth. However, trays are bulky. They can be difficult and annoying to hold in your mouth, especially for those with weak gag reflexes.

The best tooth whitening system is one that effectively and safely provides results. It should be affordable and easy to use. The system should not be painful or uncomfortable. All of these things can be found in Idol White.

The whitening system is an easy to use gel that can reach and whiten any tooth and area that the user desires. There are no trays or strips to worry with using. Simply break the swab, dip it into the whitening powder and apply to your teeth. This system gives professional results at an affordable price.

Many consider Idol White the best tooth whitening system because it can help remove plaque and polish your teeth while it whitens them. The product gives you the smile that you have always wanted and is recommended by dentists.

When searching for the best tooth whitening system, look for a product that offers positive results, safe whitening power, convince, and affordability. The best part about Idol White is that it offers all of these plus a money back guarantee.

The pain is throbbing and gets worse when you chew. Your gums are red and swollen. You have a horrible taste in your mouth. You notice your jaw is swollen, you are running fever – and is that a pimple on your gum? You, my friend, have an abscessed tooth, and you are in need of some dental services as soon as possible.

If you suspect an abscessed tooth, don’t put off seeing your dentist – even if the pain goes away…especially if the pain goes away. You see, when the pain goes away, it is an indication that the infection has spread, and the bone in your jaw is starting to dissolve, which leads to the loss of one or more teeth. Furthermore, the infection is like any other infection – if it isn’t treated, it can make its way to your blood stream.

An abscessed tooth is essentially an infection that is occurring in either a tooth or in the gum. This is usually caused by a cavity that has not been taken care of, but it can also be caused by gum disease.

Treatment for an abscessed tooth is administered by a dental care provider. He or she will do an exam to properly diagnose the situation, and then will prescribe you a course of antibiotics. Sometimes, depending on how long the abscess has been ignored, you may require two or even three courses of antibiotics to clear up the abscess, however, this does not clear up the source of the infection.

Once the abscess is taken care of, your dental care provider will find out what caused it in the first place. This may require drilling into the tooth, which will then need to be filled. Once he drills into the tooth, to the source of the infection, he will drain the infection, which will take care of the pain that you’ve been feeling. A root canal may also be necessary, depending on where the infection is. The worst case scenario will be that the tooth must be removed.

The best way to avoid an abscessed tooth is to practice exceptional dental care, and to have a professional cleaning twice a year with your dental health care provider.

100 years ago 50% of adults in North America were toothless. Today less than 10% of adults over age 65 have lost teeth. This huge jump can be attributed to many factors including the commercialization of toothpaste into the marketplace. Colgate for example introduced its toothpaste in a jar in 1873 and by 1896 Colgate was selling toothpaste in the tubes most consumers are familiar with. Today Americans spend about two billion dollars on dental products including toothpaste, dental floss, and mouth wash and of course toothbrushes. No wonder more people reach their sixty-fifth birthday with a full set of their own teeth than a hundred years ago.

Today most people under the age of 35 years old who have missing teeth have lost them due to fights, accidents or athletic trauma. Athletes are 60 times more likely to damage their teeth because they are not wearing a mouth guard during athletic activities than athletes who take the proper precautions and wear a mouth guard. For people over 35 years old the major reason for tooth loss is periodontal disease which is why it is so important to make regular dental visits and twice a year cleanings a priority.

Let’s face it, no one loves going to the dentist. For many people it is a fearful thing to sit in the dentist chair even with the modern advances that can make the visit almost pain free. However preventative visits are far easier and less stressful in the end than the alternative which can amount to spending lots of time and lots of money to repair neglect and missed dental problems such as tooth decay. Tooth decay is one of the most common and most widespread diseases around. It is also one of the oldest diseases around. Archeologists have discovered that our prehistoric ancestors suffered from the same problems with tooth decay then as we do today. The difference is they suffered with the pain of decay and tooth loss while we have the luxury of being able to see a dentist and have dental decay removed and cavities filled to ease the pain.

With all of the options at our fingertips today including braces, dentures, bridges, caps and invisible sealants, not to mention dentist who are highly trained professionals in their field, there is no reason anyone should suffer from dental pain or unnecessary tooth loss like our ancestors did only a hundred short years ago.

The accumulation of pus in or around the root of a tooth is known as tooth abscess. An abscessed tooth can be agonizingly painful and may cause the affected tooth to loosen. Dulling the pain and trying to drain the gum boil is only a first aid of course. You must visit a dentist! What are the symptoms of a tooth abscess?
throbbing pain in the affected tooth and severe pain on touching, on biting and chewing red, tender swelling of the gum over the root of the tooth and loosening of the affected tooth release of foul-tasting pus into the mouth If the infection spreads to surrounding tissues, your face may become swollen and fever can develop.
If you suspect you have a tooth abscess you should consult your dentist as soon as possible! Home remedies can help to burst the tooth abscess, disinfect and clean the surrounding area. BUT, even then a visit at the dentist is inevitable! External treatment for tooth abscess: An abscessed tooth is always a severe condition and needs medical help, but as a first aid you may try the following multiple treatments:
Place a dry black teabag or a piece of potato inside of your cheek against the sore tooth and keep it in for a couple of hours or overnight. They can draw out the infection and drain the pus. The result is diminished pain and swelling. Make a gum poultice or packing around the painful tooth with salt and baking soda. Mix half baking soda and half cooking salt and dip a wet cotton ball into the salt mixture and stuff it in your mouth between sick tooth and cheek. Keep it in for several hours. Repeat this pack for a few times, it is able to drain out the gum boil. In between swish around your mouth with Hydrogen Peroxide 1,5% as a mouthwash in order to disinfect the inflamed area. If you do not prefer Hydrogen Peroxide, you may use also Tea Tree oil in some water as a gargle. (You can use Colloidal Silver or Grapefruit Seed Extract as natural antibiotics as well.) If the abscess begins to discharge, pus is coming out, you feel an odd taste in your mouth brush your teeth (perhaps with a baking soda/peroxide toothpaste) and repeat the disinfectant H2O2 gargle. You can assist the drainage by lightly pushing against your cheek near the abscess. BUT, only lightly! If you press strongly you may push pus into the bloodstream or nearby tissues which can cause a more serious infection. Take 3 or 4 garlic capsules (300mg) a day for 5 days as a natural antibiotic. Consult with a dentist starting appropriate antibiotics.

An oral infection, like tooth abscess is a serious condition and can cause problems in other areas of the body, like inflammation of the heart or facial bones. Seeking medical help is essential!

A toothache may probably be the most annoying thing that can happen to anybody. The pain itself is already too much to bear, and having to go to the dentist makes it even worse. Sometimes, you may simply wait and hope that the pain will naturally go away on its own, but when it does not, there are natural home remedies you can try first before making an appointment with your dentist.

If you are attacked by a toothache, you must avoid drinking hot, cold, or sugary drinks. What you must do, instead, is to get some fresh cloves of garlic, and chew on them with your aching tooth, three or four time at least. An alternative is to crush a clove, mix it with peanut butter, and apply it to your aching tooth. If you do not have garlic at home, you can use ginger instead.

Gargling with salt and water also helps relieve toothaches; so does the mouthwash Listerine, and turmeric sticks. Burning turmeric sticks to turn them into fine tooth powder.

Other household items you can use to treat toothache are vanilla extract and oil of oregano. Drinking the juice of star fruit two times a day can also provide instant relief.

If the pain persists, you can try using painkillers, or ice to numb the pain.

As they say, though, prevention is always better than cure. So as much as possible avoid getting a toothache by keeping your gums and teeth clean and healthy.

Usually, you experience toothaches when there is dental cavity, and this can be avoided with proper and regular brushing. Brush regularly, ideally, after every meal, and making flossing a part of your oral hygiene. Remember that there are food particles in the mouth that cannot be removed simply by brushing alone.

Good oral hygiene is essential to avoid ever getting a toothache, and good oral hygiene often involves a visit to the dentist at least twice a year. Even if your dentist gives you a clean bill of health, and does not require you to visit him every so often, nonetheless, you must make it an annual routine to visit your dentist even just for prophylaxis treatments.

Some natural treatments you can make at home are:
o Chew ginger to cure the tooth pain faster.
o Gargle asparagus juice for 2-3 minutes.
o Gargle salty water for 2-3 minutes.
o Peppermint tea with some salt is very good treatment for toothaches.
o Put black pepper in a cloth and apply on the aching tooth.
o Ice on the tooth will give you instant relief.
o Blanch oregano leaves and gargle.
o Chew garlic or onion to relief the pain.
o Drink a cup of fresh lemon juice, drink slowly.
o Warm 1 cup of milk with 1 teaspoon of honey and drink to prevent toothaches.

Nobody wants to get toothaches, and certainly, no one wants to sit on a dental chair, with mouth wide open, waiting for judgment day. Before you head to the dentist, try some of this home remedies first. Who knows, these can save you all the trouble of going to the dentist.

Multiple Sclerosis (also commonly abbreviated to MS) is a progressive disorder, an autoimmune condition wherein the central nervous system gets attacked by the body’s immune system; these later results in demyelination and paralysis. Demyelination is the general term for diseases of the nervous system where the myelin sheath, the substance that serves as the covering of the nerve fibers, gets damaged. This in turn results disorders or impairments in muscle functions, cognition and sensation.

Multiple sclerosis is just one form of demyelination and also the most common type. The disorder was first described by Jean-Martin Charcot in 1868.

The primary correlation between multiple sclerosis and the patient’s oral health is the loss of muscle control. This condition makes it harder for the patient to brush his own teeth. In cases where the patient can at least manage to brush, due to the twitching and the less muscle control, it only results to poor brushing of the teeth. Patients with severe multiple sclerosis symptoms may require the assistance of another person just to clean his teeth.

Multiple sclerosis patients may also have a hard time relaxing in the dentist’s chair. This makes it quite difficult for the dentist to properly check the patient’s teeth as well as to conduct any necessary dental procedures or operations. As such, it is advisable and as much as possible, to limit the dental visits to the shortest time possible. This is to lessen the discomfort that the patient is already experiencing. Stress and fatigue may also play an important factor to this decision.

And also, people suffering from multiple sclerosis are not advised to wear dentures. This is due to the fact that the patient may regularly experience uncontrollable muscle movements on the face which in turn may result to the dentures accidentally getting dislodged. This may cause further accidents and harm to the patient.

Among the concerns as to why it is necessary for a multiple sclerosis patient to have consistent oral hygiene are the typical disorders associated with not brushing, flossing and not going to the dentist. These are tooth decay, halitosis or bad breath and even gingivitis. All of these are easily avoided just with proper oral hygiene.

While there is still no cure for the disorder, doctors and other health professionals only set the following goals to improve the quality of life of their patients:

1. maintain oral function and as much as possible, for the patient to be able to take care of his own dental hygiene
2. keep patient from acquiring further diseases and disorders
3. maintain a desirable appearance to improve self-esteem and self-image for a better interaction with society

If you have noticed, one of the primary concerns of doctors is for the patient to be able to maintain his own oral hygiene. This is attainable especially with patients whose condition has not yet turn to the worst. In cases where this is not possible, family members are trained to assist the patient or if possible, to hire a caregiver who can help with such necessities.

The key to helping your child have a healthy mouth, teeth, and gums is to start early. You should be cleaning your infant’s mouth starting a few days after he is born. Even though newborns don’t have any teeth, bacteria still builds up in their mouths, and the health of their gums is very important to the future health of their teeth. Each evening, with a damp baby washcloth, gently clean around the infant’s gums, tongue, and roof of the mouth.

As your infant begins to grow teeth, you can continue using a damp washcloth at first, or you can use a Q-tip to clean the individual teeth as they grow in. This will likely begin around 6 months of age. If you have been cleaning your child’s gums regularly, this will probably not bother him. However, if you have been remiss, and your child’s teeth and gums have not been cleaned or checked by you by the time he is 2 years old, chances are good that he’s got a decent amount of plaque build-up.

After the age of 2, your child will have a full set of baby teeth, and will be eating solid foods. Now his teeth need to be brushed twice a day to effectively remove plaque and bacteria. You can brush them with a child’s toothbrush and water at first, then graduate to a toddler toothpaste that will not harm your child if swallowed. Use this time to teach him that after you brush his teeth, he will be expected to spit out the toothpaste and rinse. At first, this will not be easy for him to do, and that is why you begin with toddler toothpaste. If some (or all) of it gets swallowed, it will not make him sick.

Around the age of 3-4, have your child brush his own teeth first, followed by a good brushing by you. Don’t forget to brush his tongue! The tongue is a breeding ground for bacteria and is often neglected, causing bad breath and tooth decay. By the age of 4, all children should have had a primary dental check up as well.

By the age of 5-6, your child should be brushing primarily on his own, with periodic checks and follow ups by you to ensure that he is indeed cleaning his teeth effectively. You might consider simply watching, or actually following up with a parent cleaning 2-3 times a week.
