Arthritis is a condition that can cause stiffness, pain and swelling in joints and other supporting structures of the body such as bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Some forms of arthritis may affect other parts of the body, including various internal organs. There are many different types of arthritis including osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), rheumatoid arthritis psoriatic arthritis gouty arthritis and septic arthritis Arthritis can affect anyone at any age. Arthritis treatment often includes physical therapy and exercise. Physical therapy and exercise can help arthritis sufferers in many ways. The primary goal is to improve functional capacity to help reduce pain and fatigue associated with daily activities. Increasing the range of motion of a joint is the primary focus of physical therapy.

Physical therapy and exercise for arthritis focuses on pain relief, and in restoring function and movement. Physical therapy programs may provide therapeutic methods, including physical techniques and activity modifications. A physical therapy program consisting of manual therapy and exercise benefits patients with arthritis.

Gentle exercise helps to prevent bone loss and osteoporosis. Lifting weights is a beneficial exercise for arthritis and for joint support. Physical therapy and exercise reduces joint pain and stiffness, builds strong muscle around the joints, and increases flexibility, muscle strength, cardiac fitness, and endurance.

Some of the exercises prescribed for people with arthritis:

o	Range-of-motion exercises (stretching or flexibility exercises)
o	Strengthening exercises
o	Water exercises
o	Recreational exercises
o	Endurance or aerobic exercises

Physical therapy and exercise helps to:

o	Maintain normal joint movement
o	Strengthen muscles around the joints
o	Strengthen and maintain bone and cartilage tissue
o	Improve overall ability to do everyday activities
o	Maintain weight to reduce pressure on joints
o	Keep bone and cartilage tissue strong and healthy

Depending on the severity of arthritis, a physical therapist may suggest either isometric or isotonic exercises. A combination of manual physical therapy and exercise is more effective to reduce pain, dysfunction and stiffness in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.

What is a skin allergy? A skin allergy is a reaction caused by a substance that comes in contact with the skin, thus a skin allergy. Some types of contact skin allergies are dermatitis, eczema and hives. Contact dermatitis develops when the skin comes in contact with something that a person is allergic to. A reaction to skin allergies may cause a redness or even swelling, stinging, burning or blisters and yes, itching.

Skin Allergies are one of the most prevalent causes of skin conditions. Generally, they are caused by an immune system which becomes hypersensitive after exposure to certain substances which it recognizes as harmful. As a result of this exposure, the body’s immune system releases huge amounts of antibodies to combat these “supposedly” harmful substances. The release of these immune cells may then cause an adverse reaction in other cells within the body.

The major symptom of skin allergy are hives, rashes, swelling, itching which may includes one or more physical signs like dry skin and it results in cracking of the skin. The hands, face, arms and neck are the common areas affected by skin allergies as are exposed usually every day.

Hives are red bumps or welts that form on the top layer of skin. Usually they will appear in a small area first, but they can then spread. You will find that the hives can appear on the face, arms, neck, or all over the body. The nature of hives is to be itchy. This means that food allergies cause itching skin in humans. Often the skin may appear itchy before the actual hives or reddened patches of skin will appear.

Common symptoms of allergies include redness and itchiness of the eyes, wheezing or other breathing problems, skin rashes or hives. Some people with severe allergies might even experience anaphylaxis or death in extreme exposure situations. There are many common allergies from which many people suffer. Animal dander (particularly from cats), pollen, dust mites and certain medications can all be causes of allergies. Some individuals are also allergic to certain foods or even whole food groups.

Something to keep in mind with the skin reaction as a result of food allergies is that irritating the area or becoming stressed over the issue can cause the skin reaction to be more pronounced. In other words if you become stressed you can actually psychologically induce hives. It is a reaction of too much chemical in your body as a result of stress. This means that for those with a food allergy they can cause the hives to become worse than they would normally be.

Eczema the most common skin problem is triggered by allergies. Similarly hives are caused by allergies. It is important to learn about allergies so that we can care for our skin. Most of us have different ideas about allergy. Some of us do not believe in allergy while some of us think that they suffer from allergy with every substance. Most of us are allergic to something. Most of these allergies are harmless but some like eczema can cause lot of distress and skin problems.

Contrary to the popular belief, periodontal diseases, not tooth decay, are the main cause of adult tooth loss. These diseases, caused by bacterial infection in the gums, ligaments and bones, can be cured quite easily by periodontal therapy. Although painless, periodontal diseases can occur at any age and the progress of the diseases differs from person to person.

Periodontium is the name for the specialized tissues which surround and support a tooth. The periodontium helps maintain the tooth’s position on the maxillary, or mustache bone, and the mandibular or inferior maxillary bone. The four tissues that make up the tissue are alveolar bone, cementum, gingiva or gums and periodontal ligament. Periodontics is a dental subject that deals specifically with the care and maintenance of periodontium.

Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy
Also called conventional periodontal therapy, this kind of treatment is essential for the removal of dental plaque and calculus. The elimination of the inflammation-causing etiologic agents will control bacterial growth that encourages gum diseases. When gum diseases are diagnosed in the early stages, periodontal treatment, by itself, might cure the problem. If the diseases is at an advanced stage, one might require to undergo certain other procedures before the therapy such as, substituting worn out filling and crowns with overhanging margins. The margins will help in accumulating the plaque.

There are three forms of cleaning treatments include:

Scaling and Root Planing (SRP)- Periodontal scaling process includes elimination of stain, plaque and calculus from the crown and below. Root planing involves removal of rough cementum and surface dentin that in embedded in the calculus. Antibiotics – An adjunctive cleaning option to the former, antibiotics in the pill form can be consumed to control bacterial growth. An antibiotic powder or an anti-bacterial mouthwash can also be effective in eliminating germs.
Laser in Periodontal Therapy
Lasers are increasingly being used for the purpose of periodontal therapy. Lasers are used as an additional treatment SRP in order to improve the efficacy of the procedure. Lasers, when used as an adjunct to the non-surgical periodontal therapy, causes less bleeding or swelling; thereby, making the treatment process less painful and uncomfortable for the patient.

There’s a rumor going round the town that pain is a bad thing and should be eliminated at all costs. Big Boss Pharma has been lining up all its big guns and, no matter what level of pain you may be experiencing, there’s a pill with your name on it, assuming you get a prescription, of course. You may therefore look at the headline here and be a little surprised. How on Earth can anyone think pain is a good thing? Well, let’s go back to basics. Darwin, that inconvenient man who thinks we all evolved rather than were created, argued only the best-adapted species survived. When it comes to survival, the animal needs to know when it’s under attack. If it’s injured, it decides whether to fight or flee. So pain is a vital signal to the brain. It warns when the body is injured. We benefitted from that when we were less well-developed. Today, it’s still useful to know if we have accidentally injured ourselves or just picked up something too hot to hold.

The modern response is to seek medical assistance and then we complain when the pain message continues. So let’s move medical science a few years into the future. Rather in the same way we can switch off the burglar alarm when we know someone has broken into our home, a researcher develops a magic pill to switch off pain. It changes the brain’s chemistry so we are no longer aware of any pain. Would you take it? Before you rush to an answer, the scientist confirms this is an all or nothing pill. Either you feel pain or you do not. We will have to go into real science fiction to arrive at a treatment that only switches off the pain messages from the injured part of the body. In theory, it should be possible to neutralize the pain by interrupting the nervous system at key junctions, e.g. where an arm or leg joins the body. Unfortunately, this also risks paralyzing the arm or leg.

Anyway, back to the question. Would you take a pill to switch off pain? It would mean you would not know if you were damaging any other part of your body. Suppose you drink something that’s burning your tongue, or slip and make your existing injury worse. You would not know to stop drinking or seek further medical treatment. Completely turning off pain is dangerous unless you lie perfectly still and take no physical risks. Even then, you would not know if you were getting the first pain symptoms of a heart attack or warning indications of any other disease. The present situation is safer because a drug like Ultram simply reduces the intensity of the current pain. You can still feel if any other part of your body is injured or you are affected by some other disease or disorder.

In Europe, the trend is to teach people pain management techniques so they can achieve a good quality of life without having to rely on painkillers. This does not deny a role for drugs like Ultram. They will still be used for short-term relief should pain flare up. The hope is people can cope without risking dependence on drugs.

Let’s start off with a few simple propositions. Pain is just an extension of touch. We feel some levels of pressure represent pleasure or are merely acceptable. If the pressure becomes uncomfortable, we are immediately alerted. If the discomfort turns into pain, we are motivated to take action. So the gradations of touch into pain are a necessary part of the bodily process allowing us to avoid injury in our dangerous modern environment. Sadly, we do not have the means to switch off pain selectively. We continue to feel some pain unless the drugs literally induce unconsciousness. This is reality. There’s no sense in trying to deceive ourselves. So the big question is how we organize our lives to live a satisfying life with continuing pain?

This is not what you want to hear. The marketers who aim to sell you the range of drugs produced by the pharmaceutical industry have been brainwashing you for decades. They want you to believe there’s a pill to cure all your ills. Except that has always been a lie. Although some drugs are very effective for a time, all drugs slowly lose their effectiveness as the body adapts to them. This leaves you with the choice of giving up the drugs or increasing the dosage and risking dependence. In fact, we have millions of people addicted to prescription drugs. The majority could not stop without experiencing unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.

Long ago, the Europeans decided this was unacceptable so they have been working to change mindsets. People have to understand they cannot rely on drugs to solve their long-term health problems. They must become more self-sufficient. This is what pain management really means. Specialists have to teach people how to live without becoming dependent on drugs. It all starts with a thorough re-evaluation of the medical treatment to date. Fresh pairs of eyes look back through the records of surgical procedures and other therapies. If anything has been missed, they are now done. If anything may have been done wrongly, attempts are made to correct any adverse consequences. The idea is to ensure everything that can be done to treat the underlying cause of the pain has been done.

Now we come to the pain itself. This is recognized as a medical problem in its own right. There are specialist physicians and highly trained therapists grouped together in dedicated units. Their job is to evaluate each patient and devise a personal regime for maximizing the quality of life. It starts with occupational therapists who visit homes and workplaces, suggesting how living spaces can be designed to reduce problems, and looking to see if jobs can be redefined to reduce the causes of pain. Then come the physical therapists to introduce exercises and activity programs to rebuild strength and improve mobility. Finally, the cognitive behavioral therapists teach practical strategies for staying positive when life seems difficult. All the evidence shows this team approach is very effective. Making the patient the center of attention improves morale and fights off the threat of depression. This is not to deny the importance of a drug like Ultram. There can be a flare-up of pain and, as a short-term response, a painkiller can be essential. But, as soon as possible, the Ultram must go back into the cabinet. Life must go on without drugs.

If there is such a thing as good news about hemorrhoids, it is that in most cases, while they appear spontaneously, they will also disappear on their own. In some cases though, specifically internal hemorrhoids, thrombosed hemorrhoids, prolapsed hemorrhoids, or in persistent or recurring cases, surgery for hemorrhoids may be required.

There are a variety of types of surgery, and some of these include:

Hemorrhoidectomy – this is a procedure whereby internal or external hemorrhoids are excised by scalpel or cauterization. Laser Coagulation – a special laser is used to coagulate and shrink the vein that is causing the hemorrhoid. Infrared Coagulation – similar to laser coagulation, in this procedure, an infrared light source is used to shrink and treat the hemorrhoid. Rubber Band Ligation – a procedure used to treat internal hemorrhoids, this type of surgery for hemorrhoids involves the placement of a tight rubber band at the base of the hemorrhoid, which then shrivels due to the lack of blood flow, and drops off. Injection Sclerotherapy – this is another type of surgery for hemorrhoids internally, this involves the injection of a chemical near the vein, which causes it to contract and close, cutting off blood flow, and eliminating the hemorrhoid.

Of course, before you decide to have surgery for hemorrhoids, you should first try natural or home treatments, which are far less invasive, and speak to your doctor, who should be able to advise you on the best course of treatment.

If your doctor does recommend surgery for hemorrhoids, make sure that you are clear on what the procedure entails, and that you are aware of preventative measures, so that you can avoid any future hemorrhoid problems, and the necessity for a second surgery! As they say, prevention is always better than cure.

A rotator cuff injury therapy based on specific exercises is the best approach for a fast rehabilitation from injury or disorder. Physical therapy program should be the core aspect of an injury recovery program along typical remedies like anti inflammatories. There is a variety of reasons why a shoulder injury may occur, from occupational reasons to sport activities.

Sports like baseball, golf, weight lifting or tennis have a tendency to put undue stress over the rotator cuff, often resulting in tears or inflammations like shoulder tendonitis or shoulder bursitis. Over use in working conditions is also another major cause of injury or the ground for developing disorders like Impingement Syndrome. The common symptom for any rotator cuff injury or condition is pain.

Normally, the pain grows over time from a little tingle to a dull ache, especially over night. Of course, in the case of a dislocation or a large tear, the pain is more immediate, but sometimes a little tear can go undetected and made worse by the person affected who carries on his/her daily activities or sports, fueling a vicious circle of inflammation. For most injuries or disorders, the common response is the prescription of over the counter drugs like aspirin or ibuprofen, or prescription only drugs. Costisone injections are also used for more severe cases, but the best and most effective solution is a program or exercises for the rotator cuff.

A physical therapy program of specific rotational exercises is the best medicine to recover from an injury. These movements are quite different from common shoulder exercises and should be performed without resistance or with a very light one. Sometimes, following surgery or a severe tear, such rotational exercises should be performed not just without resistance, but passively, which means the therapist performs the movement so as to start training the rotator cuff four muscles and its tendons without undue stress.

I any case, a rotator cuff injury therapy program should be performed on a daily basis for best results. The strengthening of the cuff will also result in reduced pain and increased resistance to future injuries or disorders. In fact, it is often the case that such injuries occur because the rotator cuff is somewhat lagging behind the strength of the big shoulder muscles like the Deltoid or the Trapezius. Sport men often neglect this very important muscle group beneath the Deltoid, stressing it to the limit on a daily basis.

Hence, a rotator cuff injury therapy is useful not just as a recovery tool for a shoulder injury, but also as a preventive measure to strengthen the cuff and provide the shoulder with a solid foundation onto which all movements can be performed, without risking injury. The function of the rotator cuff is to stabilize the arm into the shoulder socket whilst performing all movements. It is only when these muscles are strong enough that the Deltoid and Trapezius can exert power at will.

Sometimes though, an injury can occur even with the best preventive program or by bad luck. Following a dislocation, a tear, or surgery, a rehabilitation program based on specific exercises can greatly cut down recovery tomes to a fraction, eliminating soon the need for pain killers and anti inflammatories. Most importantly, such program should be undertaken under the supervision of a qualified doctor or therapist and follow a professional protocol, not exercises taken here and there at random.

Dental care if not equally, but very close to health care in terms of its importance. Still we are so behind in dental care than health care. Let us review the reasons behind this.

US is much ahead of many countries in the world, in dental care research and availability of facilities. We have the best trained doctors, hospitals and universities. So much manpower and taxpayers money are invested in research. Awareness of dental care also is very high in US than many other countries in the world.

Oral hygiene is so much part of our culture. We have the best dental products available in the market. We have very healthy competition in the dental care products and is available in any nook and corner of the country.

Still we have a lot of dental problems compared to other countries. What is the reason behind this. It is because the cost of dental care is extremely high in the country. Common man cannot afford dental care in US. Most of the health insurances do not cover dental. Even if, you have dental insurance, they have caps on the money that can be spend of dental care. This makes it so hard even for middle income families to support dental care needs of their family. It becomes harder for retired people. Food habits of this country also adds to the need of dental care. Especially the meat eating.

Many socially committed companies came out with solutions. One among those, is dental discount plans. For a small monthly fee, anybody can afford to maintain a discount plan and get this available for the whole family irrespective of their age or the number of members in a family. It is a beautiful concept and may be solution for dental care issues of this country.

As you must know by now, lowering blood cholesterol – by any means – diet or medication decreases the risk of different diseases and problems like angina, heart attack and stroke. This decrease in risk, to a certain extent is connected to the decrease in the bad cholesterol levels (or LDL-C). However, another indicator or reduced risk is the ratio of bad and the HDL or good cholesterol.

Tips for a healthy diet

Whether you suffer or not from high blood cholesterol, it is recommended that you follow at least some of the advices below:

In order to maintain a healthy weight try eating moderately

If the average person should only consume 2000 calories per day, it is very important that the fat intake is below 30 percent of total calories. This means no more than 66 g of fat each day

For people with extreme increases in blood triglycerides or cholesterol, very-low-fat diets have also been found to be effective. A simple example would be 10 percent of total calories per day as fat.

Saturated fats should not make up more than one third of your daily fat intakes. Remember that saturated fats are mainly animal and dairy fats and can really raise your cholesterol levels.

Very small amounts of high-cholesterol foods such as egg yolk and organ meats should be eaten, and it is recommended that you do not eat more than one such dish per week. Eat more foods that have lots of fiber such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Eat a fish dish at least once a week.

Two very important omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA are contained in fish oils. It has been proven that people who eat a fish dish at least once a week have fewer heart attacks than those who eat fish rarely. Fish oils help decrease cholesterol and triglycerides level. Also, fish oils interfere with blood clotting. People who have severe problems with their triglyceride levels (they have a butter-like fat), these omega-3 fatty acids can have a tremendous impact on those levels.

The average North American diet does not contain enough omega 3 in their diet, and it is recommended that any diet – cholesterol related or not – include plenty of fiber in the form of whole grain, vegetable and fruits. You can lower your cholesterol by up to 10 percent by increasing the type of fiber, such as the one found in oat bran, psylium and pectin.

A rare and mysterious fragrance Vetiver’s scent is rich, earthy and sweet with spicy undertones.
Its aroma has a powerfully grounding and reassuring effect that can be relied upon to instantly relieve stress, anxiety or panic. Vetiver is open hearted and full of grace, helping us to face life’s challenges!

The strong and hearty roots of this tropical grass reach deep into the earth. Many countries plant Vetiver for protection against soil erosion. Vetiver can tolerate and survive even the severest conditions. Harvesting the roots for a single pound of material for the distillation of essential oil requires removal of 1,000 pounds or more of earth.

A thick, resinous oil with deep, dark and mysterious energies to support and comfort us through our darkest night.Vetiver’s smooth earth scent has the power to resonate deeply within to calm even the most rampant fears and misgivings.Vetiver connects and energizes the natural self.

Helpful for symptoms of shock and trauma!Resonates with the Muladhara or Root (First) Chakra. Promotes sense of belonging and community roots, feeling at home on Mother Earth. Useful when feeling vulnerable and needing help dealing with long term stressful situations. Vetiver’s tranquil and evocative beauty whispers sweetly supporting us to face our shadows.

Strong dislike of Vetiver’s earthy aroma may be the result of disassociation from or rejection of one’s instinctual nature. A powerful immune and circulatory stimulant Vetiver’s neuro-receptor process has been well-documented in controlled experiments explaining Vetiver’s action on the circulatory system. Vetiver’s action to stimulate the production of red blood cells makes it useful for relieving stress and tension held in the body.

Relieves muscle aches and pains and joint stiffness. Vetiver warms and balances the heart, mind and soul! Creates opportunities and attracts abundance. Excellent base note in prosperity blends!
The Wild Crafted hydro-diffused Vetiver is an excellent example of how this oil should smell. It is truly lovely! Most Vetiver is traditionally distilled in cast iron leaving it with a burnt after odor that distracts attention from its full bodied depth and loveliness.

I absolutely love Vetiver and use it frequently in my aromatherapy practice. Vetiver is restorative and revitalizing. It lends comfort and support in any situation. A mild sedative Vetiver promotes rest and relaxation. Helpful as a sleep aid! Vetiver is excellent for skin cell rejuvenation and healing. Use as a hair, skin and scalp reconditioner.

In Ayurvedic Medicine, an ancient system of healing practiced in India, the warm sweet earth aroma of Vetiver oil with its spicy undertones is ideal to regulate and pacify ALL the Doshas. Vata, Pitta and Kapha bodymind types respond well to the balancing effects of Vetiver essential oil. Symptoms of Vata imbalance are premenstrual syndrome, constipation, insomnia, restlessness, nervousness, anxiety and worry.

Symptoms of Pitta imbalance are high blood pressure, anger, frustration and emotional upsets, inability to go with the flow. Symptoms of Kapha imbalance are high cholesterol, low metabolic forces, slow to lose weight, fluid retention, stagnation and blockage, lethargy and depression.

BLEND WITH: Petitgrain or Orange. Vetiver works well as a stand alone, yet blends well with a variety of oils. Use it whenever you need to anchor a blend, or need a lower base note to help your formula sing!

PLEASE NOTE: There are many cheap, synthetic copies of aromatic oils, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. For best results purchase the highest quality oils you can possibly find. Use certified organic essential oils, or oils that have been tested and are pesticide free.

Aromatherapy is a gentle and noninvasive complementary health care system used for balancing and synchronizing your body, mind, spirit and emotions to enhance your health. Properly administered essential oils are a natural, safe and effective way to enhance your health and well-being and may produce satisfying results where other methods have failed. Please consult with your physician regarding serious health concerns and do not attempt to self diagnose.
